A gluten-free and low-carb trail mix with cranberries is a fun DIY food gift and a perfect snack when you are craving something salty and sweet.
Are Cranberries Keto
Be careful with the kind of dried cranberries you buy. Most of them are going to be sweetened, which is not good on the keto diet. You can either make your own dried cranberries or buy a kind that is sugar-free and has no added sugar.
There are 3g net carbs in 1/8 cup of unsweetened dried cranberries. Use as many (or as little) cranberries as you wish in this trail mix. Adjust it to fit your macros and your goals.
Low-Carb Trail Mix
I am being very careful not to call this a keto trail mix. With the proper management of your daily macros, you can still enjoy these trail mixes without going out of ketosis.
It’s really high in protein, so it makes a fantastic post-workout snack. The best way to use portion control with this delicious trail mix is to store it in individual baggies or small food storage containers. That way you know exactly how much you can eat at one time.
Best Low-Carb Trail Mix
This has the perfect balance of salty and sweet tastes. It’s even a wonderful choice if you know anyone that eats a gluten-free diet.
It’s also a beautiful-looking trail mix too! Serve this in a fancy crystal dish at your next holiday party or put it in small cups so they don’t all reach into the same bowl. No one will be able to tell it is sugar-free. They will just really enjoy munching on it.
Best Low-Carb Nuts
Some types of trail mix are made with oatmeal or other grains. To keep this keto, I used nuts, seeds, and dried cranberries. If you want to customize this recipe and use different nuts in it, here are the best nuts you can eat on the keto diet.
In a one-ounce serving of nuts there are the following amount of net carbs:
- Pecans – 1.1g
- Brazil Nuts – 1.3g
- Macadamia Nuts – 1.5g
- Walnuts – 1.9g
- Hazelnuts – 2.3g
- Pine Nuts – 2.7g
- Almonds – 2.9g
- Peanuts – 3.8g
Stay away from pistachios (they have 5.8g net carbs), cashews (8.4g net carbs) and chestnuts (13.6g net carbs).
Cranberry Trail Mix
With all the nuts and spices and the pretty dried cranberries, this trail mix is a perfect low-carb gift. Make a really large batch and put it in a decorative tin.
It is great for anyone that is gluten-free, diabetic, or on a low-carb diet.
You can also put small amounts in festive little bags and add them to your Christmas cookies tray.
