Past 3M Open champion Tony Finau will attempt to regain some good vibes this week when he tees off in the 2024 3M Open beginning on Thursday at TPC Twin Cities outside of Minneapolis. Finau, who is ranked No. 19 in the world, won the 3M Open in 2022 and finished third in 2020. In five career appearances at TPC Twin Cities, he has never missed the cut. He enters this year's tournament off a missed cut at the Open Championship, which ended a string of nine consecutive made cuts.
Finau is the +1100 favorite in the 2024 3M Open odds. Sam Burns is the +1800 second choice in the 2024 3M Open field. Sahith Theegala (+2000), Akshay Bhatia (+2200) and Luke Clanton (+2800) round out the top five choices on the PGA odds board. One surprise: Nejad is completely fading Sahith Theegala, even though he is the third choice in the odds at +2000. Theegala is in the midst of his most lucrative season on the PGA Tour. He already has earned more than $7.8 million this year, which eclipses his previous career best of $7.2 million set last season.
However, Theegala has struggled at the 3M Open in his career. In fact, he has never made the cut in three previous starts. "While I do think he can have a good tournament, his history at TPC Twin Cities says otherwise," Nejad told SportsLine.
Another curveball: Nejad is high on J.T. Poston, who is +3500 in the 3M Open odds. A two-time winner on the PGA Tour, Poston has four top-10 and eight top-25 finishes in 19 events this season. He has made the cuts in five of his last six events.
Nejad likes that Poston is a birdie machine. He ranks 12th on the PGA Tour in total birdies (287).
